Briar (League of Legends) (2024)

Briar, also known as The Restrained Hunger, is a villainous champion in the multiplayer online battle arena game League of Legends.

She was released on September 13th 2023; about a month prior to this her whole ability set and principal Splash Art, alongside her teasers prepared for the week before her reveal was leaked causing a lot of movement in the community of league and it's speculated that this caused her released date to be pushed earlier; never confirmed if this were the case or not.

Briar is voiced by Julie Nathanson.

Biography[]

Near the end of his reign, Grand General Boram Darkwill entrusted the Black Rose and its many hemomancers with creating a new kind of living weapon. Unlike their previous experiments on the deceased, this would be a being born from and fueled by blood, with that... Briar was born.

They wanted an assassin to hunt down targets, enemies to the Noxian empire; but Briar only wanted one thing: Eat, to the point that she didn't recognized enemies or allies at all, they were just food for her; with this big issue in their hands, the black rose decided that she was too dangerous to use in any battle so they gave her a handler to keep her at bay; but to make sure that Briar and not any other blood artificial living weapons caused any problems, she were jailed and heard the voices of the other prisoners desperate for blood, a sentiment she related to.

The years passed, no blood, no one to talk to at all; just her alone with her thoughts, mumbling around what she could change about herself to not eat friends in battle, a harder task that she could ever think about; but she couldn't find out trapped in the cell. All the guards were very used to the prisoner's desperate calls for attention, but Briar had a plan, she called over a week for a guard's attention, calmed, and making constant questions about the outsides. At the end of that week, the guard was really close to Briar's cell... but where was she? The guard lost the sight of her for a moment, but then she got what she wanted, a guard down prey to take a little blood from.

With that little blood, she regained strength and broke the door of her cell, meeting with the janitor who she saw as a friend and then the rest of the guards appeared hurting her new "friend". With anger, Briar broke her handler, that had a magical stone that kept her true hungry form at bay, with all that time in the cell she learned how to break it and fix it magically; after breaking it she hunts for all the guards until she broke free of the prison almost hurting her former friend... she stop herself at the right moment, building her handler back and starving to see the wonders of the world, while the black rose keeps looking at this interesting development of a weapon.

Gameplay[]

Her gameplay is very simple, she's a jungler fighter with a very quick camp cleaning ability set and full of healing on hit.

Briar's passive gives her heal whenever she hits an enemy champion or any unit for a few seconds, healing all the remaining damage if that unit dies earlier; because of this healing power she has no health regeneration at all; being the only champion with this handicap. Briar's ability kit is focused on her W (Blood Frenzy) a self taunt ability that doesn't allow her to move freely or attack anyone she wants; priors champions, champion's pets, then monsters; it has a recast that deals more damage and heals her a lot. With her Q she can actually change the target but won't stop the frenzy, for stopping she needs to use her E, a scream that breaks the frenzy, and if charged enough it heals her and pushes enemies back.

Her ultimate, Certain Death, is an almost global skillhot. Briar throws the gem above her handler that deals a bit of damage on impact, then she activates a more powerful frenzy and teleports where it hit. Then Briar attacks her target until one of the both dies, or Briar activates the E to not follow the attacks; using Blood Frenzy during this time does not substitute the ultimate's effects.

Appearance[]

Briar is a very pale young woman in around her 20s; although she can't grow in size. She has a very white hair with pink highlights in the edges; this is actually blood stains from previous meals, that tinted her hair with this color because of her wild blood eating. briar also has very sharp teeth, completely blank eyes, big claws on her both hands and point ears.

As for her more aggressive form, her facial expression turns more tense, her tongue becomes longer, her teeth seams to sharp even more and her eyes become more blood injected colored, while also keeping her full blank colour as she has in her normal state.

For clothing, Briar wears a very light Noxian armor with a lot of black and gold elements, around her arms and legs she has what it looks like to be bandages, with her heels both exposed and feet completely visible. She also has a pair of daggers stabbed forever in her ankles that don't incapacitate her from walking around.

Finally, she has her handler, made of the most high quality Noxian metals with a blood magic gem on top of it that keeps her hungry form asleep. This handler knows where bria is at all times, when removed it can come back to her no matter the distance between her and the handler.

Powers/Skills[]

• Blood Golem Physiology: It is presumed that Briar cannot die from hunger or thirst, as she's an artificial being that just eats blood. It's unknown if she's actually immortal at all or the fact that she can actually eat non-blood substances.
• Superhuman Strength: Even without her known "Berserk Mode", she's actually very strong and capable of move around with that big metallic handler she has above her head, she can break doors down to the floor and can even bite down stone creatures such as Krugs or simply just cut out heavy metal armors and doors.
• Superhuman Agility: Even with her handler on, she possesses a high agility and it's capable of doing acrobatics and jump over walls.
• Frenzy Mode: This is an On/Off ability she can actually control by herself. By breaking her handler he goes in what's known as berserk mode, a more aggressive and powerful self that increases all her skills but, loses the ability to decide who to attack.

Trivia[]

• When Briar's animated teaser appeared, most people compared that teaser with Nimona's movie because of some visuals that may have resembled the movie.
• League of Legend's French account had Briar's feet as their banner upon her close release.
  • The fact that this was the only part of the splash art that had some perfect lighting made some players uncomfortable. Then this all went forgotten as it never happened
• Even though League of Legends got leaks before, never been as big as Briar; all that went leaked were: Her Splash Art, abilities and descriptions for these, small fractions of her model in game, her voice lines and finally, the cell teasers.
• She's based to look like an I.V. Bag
• Despite being a weapon or not understanding human expressions completely, Briar has the most philosophical thoughts of any champion; especially related to being able to choose.
